The Performative Curatorial Studios aim, is to share with the public a collective curatorial process that usually happens behind closed doors.

‘The Performative Curatorial Studio (DAY#10)’ is an on-going process which aims to create dialogue around collective practices and outcomes between artists and curators.

The aim of this event is to share with the public a curatorial process that usually happens behind closed doors. We invite visitors to insert themselves in this context, in a transparent interconnexion on collaborative practices. This will be informed by the thoughts and input of the invited and involved participants while reflecting on an expanded discourse around the core topic of the day: performative aspects of curatorial practice.

Through an experimentation of the traditional symposium format by practicing and enacting discussions in an experimental real-time study, The Performative Curatorial Studio takes on the framework and mission of Agora ethos, and use this to experiment on pedagogical situations, acknowledging, ‘thematizing’ the tensions between ideas of art as an autonomous activity or as participation and sharing, translating, transferring ideas and reshaping them.

Through a closed workshop in the morning with key international artists, curators and thinkers on the field,  stretching into the afternoon where real-time actions, performances and readings, The Performative Curatorial Studio provides a working platform where we can discuss process and outcome in a think-tank of minds and experiences coming together. As active participants, the public is invited to contribute their experiences and thoughts throughout the debates as well as submit physical or non-physical material.

*This project is created in collaboration with guest curator Judith Lavagna, and TWIMC curatorial collective member, Lara Merrington. (DAY #10) is an extension of The Open Curatorial Studio, an open platform for curatorial discussion created by The To Whom it May Concern Curatorial Collective (TWIMC), which was held in April of this year for nine consecutive days at SAVVY Contemporary, and continues in an online and progressive presence at: www.theopencuratorialstudio.tumblr.com
