Publication launch & public program
Between May 10th-11th 2019, Club Real (Marianne Ramsay-Sonneck, Paz Ponce, Georg Reinhardt) in collaboration with cuban collective LASA and Spanish playwright Jana Pacheco presented a participatory and immersive performative installation LASA 10 CARNAVAL on the courtyard of Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, in the frame of the events commemorating the 10th Anniversary of LASA – Laboratorio Artístico de San Agustín (National Prize of Curatorship 2010).
LASA 10 Carnaval consisted of a highly allegorical performance borrowing elements from syncretic Carnival tradition and Russian avant-gard easthetics, where members of LASA community participated in a durational 1 on 1 installation to activate the different parts of a monograph of books on contextual art practices in Cuba with audience guests. Conceived as a collective “pagination act”, the book found several ways to generate dialogues in the space, departing from notions of expanded reading, performativity of the voice and ideas on agency and distributed authorship. The installation, where 250 artist copies of the multi media publication were distributed, could be accessed from 10 am to 1pm and at 5pm to 8pm in Havana Center, and it was followed by a concert and celebration in San Agustín on the 11th with the participation of singer and composer Raúl Paz and the release and screening of the documentary about LASA directed by Dayron Calvet: Voices in Transit.

A collaborative multimedia publication project:
In 2017 the founders and directors of LASA, cuban artist Candelario and french curator Aurélie Sampeur, developed a concept to realize a multi media publication encompassing their history and inviting authors to contribute to the dissemination of contextual art practices in Cuba. The anniversary would culminate in a public presentation at the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center during the 13 Havanna Biennial: La Construcción de lo Posible.
The multi media publication “If you were on an island… Laboratorio Artístico de San Agustín (LASA): 10 Years of Contextual Art in Cuba”, self-published by LASA under the direction of Aurélie Sampeur and edited by Paz Ponce is a collaborative editorial venture composed by a biography, recalling the history of the art laboratory, a specialized publication on contextual art practices by several cuban and international authors, a catalogue of selected art projects facilitated by the art laboratory in San Agustín and a documentary short-film .
This publication series was conceptualized by editor Paz Ponce together with Aurélie Sampeur, director of LASA, during a residency stay at the Laboratorio Artístico de San Agustín in January 2018, kindly sponsored by LASA.
