»Wie prägt sich die Stadt in den Geist eines Kindes ein? Durch die Orte ihrer Kindheit. Walter Benjamin glaubt, dass die Stadt anhand der Bilder des Kindes – in verkörperter Form – in Erscheinung tritt. Das Buch von Walter Benjamin, »Berliner Kindheit um neunzehnhundert«, ist eine Expedi- tion in die Tiefen der Erinnerung; der sogenannten Topo- gra e der Erinnerung. Das Projekt baut auf die Struktur seines Buches auf, welches 30 Collagen versammelt. Der Autor arbeitet mit einer Form von Vignetten (Medien), um das synästhetische und poetische Lesen zu verstärken. Das Projekt »Meine Kindheit in Berlin um 2015« wird als 3-tä- giger-Workshop mit Hort-Kindern der Albert-Gutzmann- Schule in Wedding entwickelt. Während des Workshops wird die Gruppe Orte ihres Alltags beobachten, sie be- schreiben, dokumentieren und durch verschiedene künstler- ische Medien in Form einer psychisch-geo- graphischen Karte der Nachbarschaft in der Ausstellung präsentieren. Schließlich werden diese Orte des Alltags der Kinder, zu Orten ihrer Erinnerung.«

“ How does a city imprint itself on the mind of a child? Through the places of its childhood! Walter Benjamin believes that it is through the images it presents – its physical form. The book by Walter Benjamin “Berliner Kindheit um neunzehnhundert” (1938) – is an expedition into the depths of memory, so called Topography der Erinnerung. The project we are proposing is built on the structure of his book collecting 30 collages. The author is using a form of Vignettes (mediums) to reinforce synesthetic and poetic reading. The project “My Childhood in Berlin in 2015”, reflects on the places where children from the Albert-Gutzmann-Schule live and grow. Through a 3 day workshop led by invited artists, the project will stimulate the perception of kids: observing, collecting and describing city/geographical space, teach them to use various mediums and give introduction in college techniques. As an outcome the children will display in an exhibition format a psychogeographical map of the neighborhood. A collage of places of their every day life that will eventually become a little archive of their own memories”.

Workshop Methodik
Der Inhalt des Projekts wird die Orte, an denen Kinder leben und aufwachsen reflektieren, als Ergebnis einer psychisch-geografische Karte der Nachbarschaft (eingegrenzt durch einen Triangel der S-Bahn Stationen – Wedding, Gesundbrunnen, Berlin Nordbahnhof).
Nach dem Buch werden die Themen in Gruppen eingeteilt: 1. Parks, Kanäle, Strassen. 2. Schul-/Räume. 3. Innenräume/Häuser und Geschäfte. Auf der Suche nach dem neugierigen und frischen Blick auf die den Erwarchsenen altvertraute Umgebung, laden wir die Kinder dazu ein, ihre Erinnerungen aufzuspüren und zu erfassen. Die “Sammlung” oder das Archiv wird während 3-tägiger Workshops erstellt, unter der Leitung von eingeladenen Künstlern. Die Kinder werden zu Fuss drei verschiedene Routen gehen, in denen sie die Möglichkeit bekommen, mit Geräten zu experimentieren, um Bild und Ton aufzuzeichnen und intermediale storytelling Fähigkeiten kennenlernen können.
Das Projekt wird die Wahrnehmung der Kinder anregen: im Sinne der Stadt / des geographischen Raums, über das Lernen verschiedener Medien zu nutzen und die Einführung in Collage-Techniken.

The content of the project will reflect on the places where kids live and grow giving as a result a psychogeographical map of the neighborhood (delimited by a triangle of S-Bahn stations – Wedding, Gesundbrunnen, Berlin Nordbahnhof).
According to the book the topics are divided into groups: 1. Parks, channels, 2.Streets, 3 School/rooms 4.Interiors/houses & shops.
Searching for the curious and fresh look of the well known to adults landscapes we invite kids to record and trace their memories. The “collection” or archive will be constructed in 3 days workshops lead by invited artists. The kids will walk 3 different routes during which they will receive a chance to experiment with devices to record sound (zoom recorders) and image (Instant photography) and exercise the intermedia storytelling skills. The results of the workshops will be displayed to parents and wider audiences in Galerie Wedding on the presentation day where kids will play the role of the guides through their collage of memories.
The project will stimulate the perception of kids: regarding city/geographical space, teach them to use various mediums and give introduction in college techniques. As an outcome the kids will have a little archive of memories to take away.

This recording has 6 tracks, they are connected with either places we visited in our urban exploration following the places of their every day or things they consider to be important in their daily life. This Sound Station was managed and tought by Georg Klein and Steffi Weissman, artist from berlinerpool network. The kids became little journalists, when out with recorders, we showed them Audacity and got their moment of DJ glory editing and understanding what sound is. Later the different tracks would be attached to objects in the exhibition through trandsducers. It was magic!
